Night Trains in N-Scale

Hey. It's the middle of the night. What am I doing awake? Appreciating some upgrades I made to the tiny trains I have. Why do I need to do this at night? Because I added lighting to my passenger cars.

I'll probably go more in-depth later, but I've started dipping my toes into N-Scale model railroading over the past year, and have since accrued two passenger train sets (a Metra commuter set and the CB&Q - "Burlington Route" - Silver Streak Zephyr) as well as some freight stuff, mostly from the venerable Kato. While all the equipment I have is incredibly detailed (Kato is fantastic in this regard), it's been missing one crucial detail: lighting.

Thankfully, Kato sells kits to light their passenger cars, and recently I acquired a six pack to light most of my existing fleet. The install process, while a bit fiddly (N-scale is tiny!), was pretty simple and quick once I understood how everything was meant to go together. From some stuff I saw online, I was a bit worried about how the light would diffuse through the car, but I think the result is more than adequate.

With that being said, please enjoy some shots of my trains running in my basement under some blue lighting, courtesy of the LED strips my roommates put up for parties. Really sells the nighttime effect.

Chasing a train is much easier when it's this small!

The Metra set zooming on by. Something looks... off about this one. Can you spot the missing part?

That's all for now! Not sure when/if I'll get to turning this train table into a full layout, but if I do I'll post about it on here ;)
